The Laboratory of Ultrafast Science (LUS) in the Department of Physics at the University of Cyprus invites applications for one (1) Post-Doctoral Researcher position for full-time employment based on a contract for 24 months. The position is available immediately and full-time employment corresponds to 140 hours per month.


The successful candidate will conduct research in photonics and non-linear optics within the LUS, as part of a wider academic and industrial research network. The main research activities will concern the development of a spatial photonic Ising Machine for annealing combinatorial optimization problems. The researcher is also expected to participate in the dissemination activities via presentations and talks in conferences/workshops. Participation in research activities of the LUS including data acquisition. Data analysis and writing manuscripts for submitting to international journals. Help in the supervision of undergraduate and graduate students working in the laboratory. Help in maintaining the day to day operation of the Laboratory of Ultrafast Science.

Applicants must be holders of a Ph.D. from a recognized University in Experimental Physics or related fields, that has been awarded prior to the starting date of the employment. Candidates must have experience in photonics, non-linear optics and/or ultrafast spectroscopy.
The position is on a 24-month contract basis. The gross annual salary ranges from €24,000 – €36,000 per annum commensurate with experience. The position does not include provision for 13th Salary bonus.  Starting date is negotiable.
No-Smoking policy. The Laboratory of Ultrafast Science is located in a clean room environment with very expensive optical elements, thus it is absolutely necessary for the candidate not to be a smoker.
