Overview

On behalf of our client, a newly established Joint Venture which has been granted all required permits and is in the process of setting and running a number of Solar Parks in Cyprus, we seek to recruit an experienced and high calibre professional for the position of the General Manager, to be based in Nicosia.

The Role

The successful candidate will report directly to the Board of Directors of the Joint Venture and will have the responsibility of overseeing and directing the operational and financial activities of the organisation.

More specifically, the role and responsibilities of the successful candidate will include, amongst other, the following:

  • Liaise with the Board of Directors to define the organisational objectives, communicate the strategic direction across the organisation and execute all decisions approved by the Board
  • Monitor and oversee the progress and development of the solar project, with regards to the implementation of the business plan and associated action plans, and taking corrective action where necessary
  • Develop, implement and monitor short-term and long-term business strategies and initiatives for photovoltaic solar components and services
  • Manage projects’ required permits
  • Liaise with all appropriate authorities and stakeholders
  • Maintain full understanding of all contractual obligations for the project and documentation of variances
  • Lead vendor procurement and bid / award phase, including Request for Proposal (RFP) creation, vendor solicitation, technical scoping, risk analysis, budget alignment, and contract negotiations
  • Supervise and direct the organisation’s day-to-day activities and affairs and maintain constant communication with the Board of Directors on the status of operations
  • Monitor work of site engineers, contractors and subcontractors to ensure that the project conforms to plans, specifications, schedules, or budgets
  • Manage project implementation activities, ensuring all standards are met and perform risk assessments on the project and proactively solve any matters encountered on site
  • Estimate materials, equipment, and personnel needed for the development of the solar parks
  • Review and analyse financial activity reports and other related data to measure profitability and identify possible areas of concern in order to take immediate action
  • Allocate and monitor the organisation’s budgets to ensure compliance with the budgetary limits
  • Monitor all activities and costs within the project and provide guidance in order to achieve the agreed standards at optimum cost
  • Involvement in business development related activities
  • Ensure compliance with all existing legislation, regulations, health and safety policies and internal procedures
  • Develop the organisation’s clientele and network with functional support to further develop relationships and improve connectivity of goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders in order to ensure the smooth operation of the organisation
  • Oversee key hiring, talent development programs and ensure execution of fair personnel policies and procedures

Requirements

  • University degree (BA/BSc) in Engineering, Business Management, Financial Management or in any other related field
  • Master’s Degree in any related field will be considered as an advantage
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a similar position and/or industry
  • Proven experience of leading the development and/or operations of solar energy projects, such as photovoltaic parks is highly desirable
  • Proven leadership skills and experience in managing people and teams effectively
  • Strong orientation towards technical and operational matters
  • Results oriented with strong business acumen
  • Organisational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple tasks
  • Strong financial understanding
  • Excellent representation and communication skills and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent knowledge of Greek and English, both written and verbal
  • Excellent computer literacy
