Job Description

CareerFinders, on behalf of our client, a Group of Companies which operates in the Insurance/Reinsurance & Real Estate industries, we are seeking to recruit an Assistant Accountant to join their growing team based in Nicosia. As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in the smooth operation of the finance department. Your duties will include accounting assignments in either insurance (Life insurance, Life and Non-Life reinsurance) the financial services sector, and real estate, covering traditional accounting activities such as bookkeeping, tax and financial reporting (e.g.IFRS9, IFRS 17) and/or assisting with the external audit, as well as broader topics including new legislation, big data/analytics, and reporting to the Regulator and the Central Bank. Our client is seeking applicants who are ideally educated to degree level in Accounting, Statistics, Economics, and holders of the LCCI Higher diploma or those working towards the ACCA qualification are encouraged to apply.  Previous experience in a relevant role is desirable, although full training will be provided, and Recent Graduates are therefore encouraged to apply. You will need to be fluent in verbal and written Greek and English, and any knowledge of additional languages, in particular German, will be considered an advantage. A highly attractive remuneration package is on offer based on skills and experience.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of bookkeeping records, bank reconciliations, monthly booking procedures.
  • Preparation of documents and liaison with banks for processing transactions. 
  • Preparation and filing of income tax and VAT returns.
  • Debtors and Creditors reconciliations.           
  • Submission of VAT returns.                                        
  • Fixed Asset Register functions.
  • Provide accurate, timely, and efficient data.
  • Work effectively within a team, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication, and updating other senior team members on progress.
  • Work on accounting assignments in either insurance (Life insurance, Life and Non-Life reinsurance), the financial sector industry, and real estate, covering traditional accounting activities like book-keeping, tax and financial reporting (e.g.IFRS9, IFRS 17) or assist with the external audit, as well as broader topics like new legislation, big data/analytics, and reporting to the Regulator and the Central Bank.

Key Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Statistics, Economics, or another closely related field.
  • Holders of the LCCI Higher diploma or those working towards the ACCA qualification are encouraged to apply.
  • Willingness to learn, establishing priorities and meeting tight deadlines with accuracy.
  • Experience in VAT returns and knowledge of the SAP accounting software will be considered an advantage.           
  • Very good communication skills and basic Microsoft Office knowledge
  • Flexible working style, enjoying working with multi-national teams
  • A high level of numeracy and logical/analytical thinking.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in the English language.
  • Any knowledge of the German language will be considered an additional advantage.
